Chartered in 1904 by the American Federation of Labor as the National Association of Heat, Frost, General Insulators and Asbestos Workers of America. The word 'International' was adopted after the acceptance of Canadian citizens into the association in 1910. The objective of the union is to assist its membership in securing employment, and by education and cooperation, raise them to a higher position in society. Affiliated with the AFL-CIO Building Trades Department and the Canadian Labour Congress.
